Biography

Nikoletta Tsitsanoudis-Malliidis is a Professor of Linguistics and Greek Language at the Department of Early Childhood Education, School of Education, University of Ioannina. She also serves as an Associate in Linguistics at the Center for Hellenic Studies Greece, Harvard University, and is a member of the Interdisciplinary Advisory Committee of the Center for Hellenic Studies (KES), ICE/IAC at the same University. With teaching experience at various institutions including the Universities of Ioannina, Thessaly, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Hellenic Open University, and as a visiting professor at Boston University, she brings a wealth of academic expertise to her roles. She has chaired and lectured at international and Greek conferences and serves as a reviewer for scientific journals. Nikoletta has served as the scientific director of training programs for ERT journalists and academic director of Greek language learning programs at the International Cultural Centre “Stavros Niarchos” in Ioannina.
A prolific author and editor, Nikoletta has contributed to numerous books (19) in Greece and America, some of which are widely used as university textbooks. Her book “Phovoglossa,” co-authored with Nikos Prevelakis, has been adopted as a textbook at Boston University and Macquarie University, Australia. She has been recognized with the “Distinguished Researcher” and “Distinguished Reviewer” awards in America from the Untested Ideas Research Center. In 2015, she was elected Executive Chair of International Academic Affairs of the Euro-American Women’s Council. Nikoletta has also served as a visiting professor at Harvard – Olympia Program at Harvard (Harvard Summer School, 2014) on a research fellowship. She is the founder and academic director of the International Summer University “Hellenic Language, Culture, and Media.” Additionally, she heads the unit “Greek Language, Culture, and Media” of the Laboratory for the Study of Social Issues, Media, and Education at the University of Ioannina. Her latest monograph, “Greek Media Discourse from the reconstitution of democracy to the Memorandums of Understanding,” was published by the Hellenic Studies Monograph Series of the CHS of Harvard, after review by the Editors’ Board of CHS of the University, and is distributed by Harvard University Press.

With a background in journalism, Nikoletta also contributes occasional writings to both Athens and expatriate press outlets.
